Joachim Jo SCHILLING worked as a painter for many decades and consistently showed his deep passion for watercolor and music.
The career of this German painter, born in January 1927, reflects the essential characteristics of the fine arts of his native country, where he attended courses with Schwimmer and Hossebrauk, professors at the Academy of Leipzig. Despite this, Jo SCHILLING moved away from the color palette of his teachers to follow a language of his own, both delicate and dramatic, influenced by musical vibrations. He opted for lighter shades and took advantage of all the possibilities offered by the difficult technique of watercolor. Looking at his current works - both powerful and subtle in color - one discovers the characteristic strokes of his drawings and the colorful lyrical impulses typical of a professional technique of high quality.
The watercolorist works the material in the opposite direction to thick surfaces, making the surfaces vibrate with points of light inherent in the symphony or sonata he wants to compose, just as he would with a blank sheet of music full of musical lines. The viewer is often rightly attracted by the drawing of a single line, which makes these entanglements a complete artistic event.
Jo SCHILLING travels the world with his strings and wind instruments, sometimes allegorical, sometimes tragic, just like our universe. Nancy, Vittel, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Paris, the USA and Canada are both home ports for this talented painter with his mischievous look and his pleasant beard, as well as prestigious places that have awarded him prizes and gold medals. Vittel (Congress Palace - Millet 92) will welcome him once again in its international hall full of talent.
